Only 2% of Technology Users Try to Find a Solution to a Problem Online

Svetlana Gladkova

A study released today by Pew Research proves an obvious fact: technology and gadgets are not particularly user-friendly and nearly half of all users need help setting up their devices or learning how to use them. The paradox is quite obvious to me: the latest and greatest technology tools are intended to make our lives easier yet learning how to make life easier takes some time first. And even after everything is up and running, chances are you will still [...]

BlackBerry Officially In the Touch-screen Market

Svetlana Gladkova

Yesterday Research In Motion announced BlackBerry Storm that is obviously yet another direct competitor to Apple’s iPhone 3G.
The major disadvantage for BlackBerry Storm is that this phone lacks Wi-Fi support but there are other things where the new device is even stronger than iPhone, like removable battery, 3.2-megapixel camera, and cut-and-paste editing functionality.
Here I have compiled a table (based on the official specifications by manufacturers) to compare the new BlackBerry Storm with its main competitors - the already popular iPhone [...]

Russian Priest Reduced to Monk for Resisting Progress and Internet

Svetlana Gladkova

This morning watching some news on TV and having breakfast I heard the words “Russian Orthodox Church” and “internet” mentioned in the same story and could not help but share the piece here. Yesterday one of Russian bishops Diomid was degraded to a usual monk for a number of wrongdoings, including prohibiting churchgoers from using cell phones and internet.
Quite obviously it is not his only fault and I don’t think that in Russia it could be viewed as a sin [...]

We have already covered Fring on Profy before but for those of you who are not familiar with this interesting and very promising mobile service, I’ll start with a short introduction here. In short, Fring is a platform for cellular devices that enables users (they are called Fringers here) to access their existing accounts with Skype, MSN Messenger, GTalk, ICQ, and our beloved Twitter (with other services in the works, I believe) right from their handsets whenever they need or [...]

Will Barcode-Embedded Ads Work For Google?

Michael Garrett

To increase the footprint of Google's AdWords service from online advertising to print advertising, the search engine giant is relying on a new implementation of barcode technology. According to the Silicon Alley Insider, Google is placing high expectations on small, square barcodes (as seen in the image at left) to be strategically placed at the bottom of print ads. These barcodes can then be scanned by a reader with a compatible camera phone, which would then instantly direct their phone's [...]

Dashwire and Bloove: Bringing Mobile Phone Management To The Web

Michael Garrett

Mobile phones are very useful in today's society, being able to make calls, capture photos, record video and even browse the web. But, many of the tasks that we use cell phones for, such as text messaging and managing contacts, can become very tedious and time-consuming, especially on phones with smaller screens and those that lack a QWERTY keypad.
To make it easier for cell phone users to maintain their phones and all of the information stored within them, new web [...]

Truphone is a beta-stage service that currently offers mobile phone users free calls via wi-fi and 3G by routing calls over the internet rather than through a traditional mobile operator. Users can also send text messages to other Truphone users free of charge.
The iPhone client is hardly ready for release, as Oliver [...]

To meet this demand, online dating service Match.com is launching a mobile matchmaking application for cell phones, which will allow its website subscribers to find singles and stay up-to-date while on the go. The [...]
