When tracking last week’s coverage of DEMOfall and TechCrunch 50 conferences, in particular all the buzz surrounding Yammer winning at TC50 and how righteous this decision is, I could not help but wonder if it was actually worth all the efforts for the startups to launch at one of the big events. Right now it looks like the majority of startups have already realized that launching at such a big event is not the wisest decision of all with so [...] |

7 Useful Startups Launched This Week
by
on September 13, 2008

Early this week we have witnessed two major technology events with dozens of innovative ideas introduced. 72 startups and established companies introduced their new projects at DEMOfall and 52 more at TechCrunch 50. While we will be sure to continue arguing if winners are actually innovative enough to get their prizes, I thought it would be a good idea to present a short list of the startups that I personally feel like actually providing some real value - both for [...] |
So Is Twitter With a Business Model Innovative Enough?

I am still trying to get out some posts out with my impressions of the startups that we have seen launched early this week at TechCrunch 50 and DEMOfall. I have not attended any of the two events but that gave me certain freedom of tracking what was going on and reading everything other bloggers and journalists had to say. |
Welcome to a Busy Technology September

Today we are having the first day of fall and no matter how sad it may be for some of us to welcome this rainy season, September will sure be a very exciting and busy month for everyone in the technology blogosphere. The main reason is that we are going to have four (!!!) major industry events this month with dozens of new projects launched and - hopefully - lots of interesting ideas and discussions to witness. |

Shel vs. Loren (and puppet). TechCrunch50 vs. DEMO. Mike Arrington vs. Pete Cashmore (and, well, pretty much everyone). We've all seen the constant battle of words in the blogosphere, but the real question is why these altercations come up at all. |

Today is Mother's Day in the U.S. and many other parts of the world, so I thought I'd take advantage of the day to celebrate some of my favorite moms from blogs and other social networks. |
Someone Should Explain the Rules of Highlander

When I saw the announcement for TechCrunch50 (or whatever number Michael Arrington and Jason Calcanis end up changing it to), I let out a little gasp, but I'm not sure why I was surprised. It took me a little while to digest that they were so blatant as to schedule the dates for their start-up launch event right on top of DEMO's fall dates. |
Widget Wonders

If some of the latest funding news is any indication, widgets are the newest must-have for every content-driven site as well as Web 2.0 apps. Widgetbox allows users to create their own widgets, which can then be used on blogs and other web pages for everything from highlighting the RSS feed of another blog to running games in a sidebar. |
The Best of the Poor Startups Selected at Le Web 3

The sessions are still under way here in Paris at Le Web 3 but one important part of the event has been completed already. And this part is the startups competition. The winners have been announced here. So out of the 33 startups presenting their 7-minutes pitches to the judges including VCs and media the best have been chosen and they are GooJet, the tool to combine and synchronize your mobile and web lives (winner), PLYMedia (the solutions to make [...] |
