Right when the blogosphere is heavily engaged in discussing rumors of eBay trying to sell StumbleUpon and even suggesting Skype may be the next candidate for the online auctioning giant to sell looking to minimize costs, eBay is announcing yet another acquisition - and rather a large one at that. The acquisition object is Bill Me Later, the service that helps online merchants decide if they should provide a transactional credit to any buyer right at the moment of purchase. |

Pretty much everyone who uses the internet has visited (or at least heard of) eBay, which has long been the top online auction marketplace. There are now thousands of business-minded people around the globe whose livelihood now depends solely on eBay and for good reason. Buyers can find the most rare of items, and sellers can find a buyer for the most obscure merchandise. Anyone who has sold items using eBay (or even Craigslist) knows how much more potential an item has to sell when a photo is provided. And 'actual' images are better than the 'stock' photos that some sellers download from the manufacturer's website. A Web 2.0 community launched last month, slipping right under my radar until I spotted it on MoMB and it made me look twice. eBay apparently developed a conscience when I wasn't looking and has joined forced with World of Good, Inc. to create a new community site centralized around commerce. |

I'm a big collector of THINGS: books, music, foreign currency, vintage fashion dolls, etc. A long while back I actually ran a collector site, and thought about building an app that people could use to track their collections and estimate a secondary market value for their items. Of course, I had kids instead, but was pleasantly surprised to see someone had gone ahead and done it when I saw a blurb about Kollecta, a site organized around collectables and [...] |

by
on February 10, 2008

The sale of stolen historical items online has been a problem since sites like eBay began. eBay is not liable for stolen items being sold on its site, after all, how could they possibly have a way to find out what is legitimate and what is stolen? However, in a gesture of responsibility and goodwill, they have volunteered to buy back the stolen items from the winning bidders. |
