Web 2.0 has developed its own ecosystem, with application builders able to build their apps using mash-ups, AIR clients, and new apps on the backs of popular 2.0 apps already in wide distribution. Virtually every day we see announcements of new applications based on Twitter and FriendFeed and Google Reader, as well as Facebook apps, MySpace apps, and Hi5 apps. The real question, however, is what will happen to these companies and this ecosystem if one of the foundation companies [...] |

FriendFeed: The New Echo Chamber
by

Poor Louis. He may end up sorry that he ever raised his FriendFeed pompoms toward me. I've spent the past two days crawling all over FriendFeed to give it the chance that I never did. I added it to Twhirl so I could follow the updates during the day. |
Brightkite: I May Not Have to Miss Fireball After All
by

Returning back home after Web 2.0 Expo, I felt bereft. No longer could I turn quickly to my trusty RAZR, send a Twitter message to @fireball, and find out where people were. It's a silly thing to want, but if you are making plans to go out, it's helpful to have, especially if you are trying to meet up somewhere. |
Popular Mechanics Declares Search Dead. Also, Research Is Hard Work
by

It may be time for Popular Mechanics to be declared dead. The 468 individuals who Digged the article should hang it up as well. There are really 468 people out there who think that How Social Networking Could Kill Web Search as We Know It is actually news? |
If Robert Scoble Is Right, Then Web 2.0 Is Dead

I was determined to remain out of this weekend's bitchmeme. I'm an old-fashioned kind of girl who comments on the blog where the author knows I said something, reads my feeds offline half the time, and doesn't jump on the latest bandwagon when it comes to "conversation." |
You Never Get a Second Chance at a First Impression

This post really should have a subtitle of “What should you be doing when it comes to customer service?” because it's one of the most crucial ways that a company can screw it up. Mistakes happen, and it's often overwhelming dealing with unhappy or unsatisfied customers. But meeting at least a bare minimum expectation can go a long way toward increasing a user base, and going the extra mile goes even farther. |
April Fool’s Day: The Most Annoying Day in Tech
by
on April 01, 2008

Odds are that any additional articles I write today will be site reviews, because today is my least favorite day of the year as a tech blogger. Beyond my usual schedule of getting Rick rolled at least once a day by someone, I am now stuck with sifting through my feeds trying to determine what's actual news and what's an April Fool's Day prank. |
Web 2.0: Does Social Media Really Just Recreate High School?
by
on March 27, 2008

No sooner does a social media app take off than new ways of using said app to recreate cliques follow. Whether it's blogs or Twitter or FriendFeed, it seems there has to be a group of cool kids, and one of the not-so-cool kids. |
Alpha, Beta Soup. What Does an App’s Status Mean to You?
by

I read Marshall Kirkpatrick's Twine review as well as Nova Spivack's response today, and realized that there is often a huge disconnect between what developers feel is a product's readiness state, and the general public's, even when it comes to those writing about tech. |
Socialthing Launches. And Crashes. And Launches.

I want to love Socialthing. Really, truly I do. I am not the world's biggest FriendFeed fan even though it seems everyone has already sworn allegiance to it judging by the number of times I see it added on my Facebook news feed. But FriendFeed is ugly. And I'm tired of having to find and add people everywhere I go. So imagine my glee when I opened my email this morning to find my Socialthing invite. |
