It is rather disturbing to see everything free online and users revolting even because of web services making them watch some ads to earn at least something to sustain their businesses. Today we are going to see another example of a product switched to a free model - this time by Vancouver-based Calgoo Software. |

April Fool’s Day: The Most Annoying Day in Tech
by
on April 01, 2008
|
Odds are that any additional articles I write today will be site reviews, because today is my least favorite day of the year as a tech blogger. Beyond my usual schedule of getting Rick rolled at least once a day by someone, I am now stuck with sifting through my feeds trying to determine what's actual news and what's an April Fool's Day prank. |
FuseCal: An Alpha Missing a LOT of Features
by

I have four children. Four. And each one has his or her own calendar that requires constant syncing with my calendar as well as my husband's calendar so that we know who has to be where at what time. Calendars are such a problem for us that I try every single time/appointment manager as soon as I find it, from Sandy to virtual assistants. Since I still haven't found one app that does everything I need it to do, I [...] |
How 2.0 Are You?
by
on February 20, 2008

Web 2.0 is a term that means different things to different people, but there are some common characteristics that seem to characterize Web 2.0: alpha or beta status. A certain look and feel to sites. Social aspects to the application (for the most part). Building something that should enhance something else (Facebook apps, browser plug-ins). Some things are also common that also crop up, like frequent down-time, or lack of a business plan that ends up with a site shuttered, [...] |
How Much Data Do You Really Want Portable?
by
on January 24, 2008

I've been following the barrage of news regarding Data Portability with a mix of excitement and trepidation. I've been a proponent of OpenID, and regularly use services like PassPack to keep track of the ridiculous number of log-ins I seem to have accumulated. At the same time, I worry about what data is essentially mine, and what doesn't rightfully belong to me. I'm still not convinced that Robert Scoble owned the contact information for his 5000 “friends” on Facebook, [...] |
Don’t You Want Sandy Too?

I am probably the least qualified person to talk about personal productivity tools, because I find most of them difficult to use, annoying, and cumbersome. Of course, that also means I often miss deadlines, forget tasks, and lose my car keys, so it's fairly obvious that I'm exactly the type of person who NEEDS personal productivity tools. Even more helpful are personal productivity tools that let me share calendar entries and task lists with others, since I have an extremely [...] |
Dandelife: Are You Ready for Lifecasting?
by
on January 21, 2008

Sometimes I'm a little slow at catching on with new things. It took an interesting new look to Ross Mayfield's blog to get me to notice Dandelife, but I may have gotten hooked on this whole lifecasting thing. I was fortunate enough to spend some time IMing with Dandelife CEO Kelly Abbott about his vision for Dandelife as well as getting a bit of a newcomer's walk-through. |
Gmail Remembers the Milk

We first reviewed Remember The Milk here at Profy almost exactly a year ago, and thought we couldn't love it more then. How little we knew about the possibilities, however, because this week, RTM released version 1.0 of possibly the most useful item you'll ever download: a |
How Did I Ever Live Without IMified?
by
on September 25, 2007

This week I discovered the most useful IM integrated Web 2.0 application that I've seen, IMified. This sleek little application is actually an IM gateway to dozens of other applications that you already use. It allows you to send your self notes, tasks, calendar items, and much more, all from your IM client on your computer or phone. |

We learned last week that Google decided to make its Google Apps suite available to nonprofits. The company will offer the education-oriented version of its collection to such groups. |
