Svetlana Gladkova

Today Microsoft is announcing another huge buyout of its stock - worth $40 billion dollars. The company has already completed the previous $40 billion buyout (it was originally for $30 billion with extra $10 billion added later) of shares and now we see the next round in an attempt to improve the corporation’s financial situation.
This buyout process is scheduled to run through September 2013. At yesterday’s price $40 billion could buy Microsoft 17% of shares but after today’s announcement the [...]

Intel, HP, Yahoo Announce Joint Project for Cloud Computing Research

Svetlana Gladkova

The speculations about what HP, Intel and Yahoo are supposed to announce this morning started after a post on Techcrunch yesterday inviting the readers to guess what the announcement will be. It was obvious that it will be some research initiative for processing of large volumes of information but of course we could only guess.
Now we have the clarity - the three giants will be working on a joint initiative to research the potential of cloud computing. The [...]

Exit Strategy: Why Does Every Web 2.0 Company Have Only One?

Facebook fatigue. Have you heard the phrase? Are you suffering from it? Where once I logged into Facebook first thing every morning to check status updates and new links from tech-minded friends, I can't tell you the last time I logged in. And I no longer seem to get friend requests, although I regularly find adds on FriendFeed and LinkedIn.
Today is the first anniversary of the launch of the Facebook Platform, and it was marked with the official announcement that [...]

It’s Corporate Mash-Up Week! CBS to Acquire CNET

I'm starting to think I may just want to skip right over the rest of 2008 and start fresh in 2009 when companies come to their senses. I'm sure CNET is ecstatic about the news; several of their properties have been financially struggling now for what seems [...]

Disney 2.0 Part III: eXtreme Tween Socializing

Cyndy Aleo-Carreira

I saved the last part of the Disney Online suite of social apps for the last part of my series, mainly because I knew it was going to take days for me to get any information out of my eight-year-old. She's not dumb, and knows how to milk one of her "site reviews" for all they are worth in terms of getting more computer time. However, she is the main reason that I attended the Rich Internet Experiences and the [...]

My favorite part of being at a conference isn't the sessions, although you can certainly learn a lot. It's meeting people an having conversations and discovering products you may not have heard of before.
By luck of where I was able to find an open outlet for my laptop today, I got to meet Angela LoSasso, Community & Blogs Strategist at Hewlett-Packard. Angela asked me if I'd ever heard of The HP Community Wiki, and, shockingly to me, but not [...]

HP CloudPrint Introduces Mobile Printing

Michael Garrett

The New York Times recently reported on a new and innovative development by Hewlett-Packard that will allow users to “print documents on any printer almost anywhere in the world.” And, no, this is not a joke (like Gmail Paper was).
CloudPrint has been under development for several months and was created by researchers at HP Labs. This service makes it possible to share, store and print documents using a mobile phone. The idea for the service started spreading after a conversation [...]
