Digg’s New ‘Pics’ Visualization: Pretty And Irritating All At Once

Paul Glazowski

Remember when Digg launched its Images category earlier this month? It was an addition that really couldn’t have come soon enough. The social news company got plenty of notes of appreciation, plenty of big Xs and Os for finally putting it out there for the community. At last there was a convenience place to share all those cool Flickr finds…outside of Flickr. So all around thumbs up, right?
Sure, we can second such impressions. Many of us here [...]

Flickr Slated To Publicly Unveil New Maps And Places Features Today

Paul Glazowski

Last month we brought you word that Flickr would be launching “geotag”-centric upgrades.
One upgrade would be a new, more enhanced world map, enabling easier access to the world of photographs – now numbered at two-billion-plus – uploaded to the website’s servers. The photo service also claimed to be near the release of something called Flickr Places, which would enable one to limit searches to specific locations and see a variety of information deemed relevant to a particular [...]

Imagery - The Best Advancement Yet In Image Searching

Michael Garrett

Image searching has become somewhat of a staple among search engines. Google began offering it in 2001 followed by Yahoo! and even the image-only search startup Picsearch.
Be that as it may, little improvement has been made since then to the searching process or to the interface with which users must interact. When searching for images using any of the top 3 engines mentioned above, visitors must scan small thumbnails, then click to nagivate to a framed version of the page [...]

Prince Throws a Fit, Attacks Fan Sites With Takedown Notices

Paul Glazowski

The man has amassed quite a solid following over the years he’s been working his axe. His purple axe. Whether he’s marketed himself as someone with a name or someone with a mere emblem, he’s been a popular presence in the world of sonic spectacles. Who is he? Why, Prince, of course.
Yes, an individual (more than) occasionally confused with that crazy plastic man at Neverland, Prince has proven over the years quite consistently to be a serious contender in the [...]

Digg To Unveil New Images Feature In Coming Weeks

Paul Glazowski

It’s been a long-requested addition that has so far been absent Digg’s feature list. Fortunately, in a few weeks’ time, the wait will be no more.
The debut of an Images-specific category on Digg is to occur “in a week or two,” according to Michael Arrington of TechCrunch. (How’s he know? K. Rose told him.) It was first promised by the San Francisco-based company back in August of this year, and after a good three months, it’s about ready for release.
Some [...]

Flickr, Now Available In 8 Languages

Paul Glazowski

I like Flickr. I use it quite a bit. As do millions and millions of others. Throughout the world.
Because it’s something of a global enterprise, however, its long-held English-only existence has come as a significant limitation in its drive for expansion. So Flickr has finally decided to do something it should have done long ago: support additional languages.
Some of our higher ups here at Profy likely won’t take too kindly to the fact that Flickr has not chosen Russian as [...]

The New Ask.com: More Skin, More Features, And Simpler Still

Paul Glazowski

Ask.com. There’s a lot of love for the fourth-most-popular search engine on the Net. It’s an industry player that’s okay with not having to fight for the top spot. (Though it certainly would take it if the crown were offered.) It caters to loyalists and is content in knowing it offers more bang for the buck than just about any portal in existence today. Of course, it’d enhance it’s allure even further if I’d take Jeeves out of retirement to [...]

Google Announces Universal Search

Paul Glazowski

Most of us have used Google Search over the years, and it’s safe to say most have been content to do so. Until now. Now we want more – without putting more effort in. We don’t only want the standard set of links displayed ten at a time. We don’t want to have to physically enter the same search term on a subdivision of the main engine (news, images, video, etc.). We want things to be easier to use and [...]

Have you ever been in a situation where a friend asked for a guidance to overcome certain problems and you tried to explain in the way that you hope he will understand, but to no avail?
Worse still, if you’re working as a customer service officer, you wil have to explain the same thing over and over again to a customer who is totally clueless about what you’re trying to tell him. And that usually ends up with either you pay [...]
