WiTV - Will It Be Better Than Joost?

Michael Garrett

You are probably already thinking that, right now, it wouldn't take much to be better than Joost, considering that it is still in beta and experiencing problems. But, I am thinking in terms of a true competitor for the service that is after the same audience and the same media corporations for attention.
Babelgum decided to aim towards a more independent crowd, while Joost aimed straight for the big media companies for content and advertising. Now, according to WebTVWire, “WiTV [...]

Joost Needs A Bandwidth Boost

Michael Garrett

Apparently there has been a lot of concern about the video quality and bandwidth requirements of Joost, the free P2P online television application. JoostTeam has done some testing and compared the quality of Joost to both DivX Stage6 and iTunes videos.
According to their findings, the bit rate of Joost videos equals out to only half that of the same videos available from DivX or iTunes. To make matters even worse, it was reported that the resolution of Joost does [...]

BBC Misses the New Media Boat

Cyndy Aleo-Carreira

The BBC recently announced their upcoming iPlayer, an on-demand video player that will allow users to watch BBC television broadcasts seven days after they are aired. iPlayer has been in development since 2003, and you'd think that with that kind of development cycle, they could have clued in to see that times were changing.
The problem? The iPlayer relies on Microsoft's DRM technology, which means if you aren't running a Microsoft operating system, you are out of luck. No Linux or [...]

The next closest site was News Corp's MySpace Video according to the survey with about 16 percent of the market.
YouTube Then the Others
Google's YouTube as of May, 2007 controls over 60 percent of the [...]

Published today by BBC News is a Tech Lab essay by none other than Niklas Zennstrom, the co-founder of the VoIP sensation, Skype, and IPTV venture Joost. If those two don’t ring any bells, maybe “KaZaA” will. Yes, a rebel doomed to a life of innovation, Zennstrom waxes on for several hundreds words about why it’s really quite easy to chart a wild success in the technology industry. Let’s pick apart some of the paragraphs, shall we?
