Michael Garrett

MetaCafe, the 3rd largest video site in the world, has just launched their Facebook application. Now, Facebook users can search through all the videos on MetaCafe, share videos with friends, see what is popular (both within your network and on Metacafe), and leave comments.
This application also makes use of MetaCafe's new user channels feature, which allows anyone to create, update and promote their very own video channels on Metacafe. This will allow users to subscribe to their favorite channels, [...]

YouTube - Is It Unstoppable?

Phil Butler

My old favorite YouTube seems to be chugging along according to the news today. According to statistics from a Hitwise, Inc traffic data, from January to May the market share of visits to YouTube rose 70 percent even in light of the site's legal woes. The next closest site was News Corp's MySpace Video according to the survey with about 16 percent of the market.
YouTube Then the Others
Google's YouTube as of May, 2007 controls over 60 percent of the [...]

Classic Flicks In Web 2.0 Format

Paul Glazowski

Just yesterday I spent some time in the evening going through an assortment of digital notes and memos I managed to amass over the last several weeks. Throughout the years I’ve come to realize how forgetful I can be, so whatever I’d like to keep in mind but can’t - for whatever reason - I jot down.
One of the memos I found in the “pile” was a line concerning a website upgrade I read about weeks ago, which I intended [...]

Pentagon Blocked Access to Entertainment Sites

Svetlana Gladkova

It looks like Pentagon further restricts the way military personnel uses the world wide web. Military personnel and civilian employees will not be able to access YouTube, MySpace, Pandora, Photobucket, hi5, metacafe and several other “recreational Internet sites” (I like the term, by the way) when they are using the Department of Defense network. The full list of websites along with the explanation of the reasons for such a decision can be found in the official Pentagon memo. The cited [...]

Lessig And 75 Others Ask For Fair-Use Presidential Debate Footage

Paul Glazowski

Lawrence Lessig is at the pulpit again, and he’s talking about fair use, again. Which is great. Everyone wants fair use. (Except, you know, some media companies who'll remain unnamed here.) But Lessig’s talking politics, too.
He’d like to see recorded presidential debates be made available for presentation, and even “remixing”, on the Web. Can’t say I don’t agree.
Whether or not the presidential debates scheduled this year and the next (the first with all Democratic hopefuls in attendance occurred [...]

Top Ten Picks: Yahoo! Pipes Video-Based Mashups

Paul Glazowski

Yahoo! Pipes has been helping people mash for a good few weeks now. Buzz has built considerably around the platform, and some of the items that have resulted from user experiments are becoming increasingly popular. NewTeeVee found ten video-related mashups that they suggested their readers give a look-see, which we thought you, our readers, would like to learn a bit about, too.
Some - like “YouTunes” and “Last.fm meets YouTube” and “Coming soon trailers” - appear elementary in [...]

Uvouch Beta - A Home For Your Video

Phil Butler

Search, find and save video clips and links from anywhere on the Web - all in one place - with one simple click.
We had the opportunity today to Beta test another innovative, free video sharing community called Uvouch.  The dynamic site reveals a Web 2.0 interface that allows users the ability to instantly add video from any of the major video sites on the Web. I got an invitation to test Uvouch directly from Parveen Panwar, the CEO of the company, and was [...]

WeWin Wins! Gofish Casts the Net

Phil Butler

More news from video sharing services - this time about money. Today I got a scoop from a credible source in the financial industry that gofish.com has hired JMP Securities of San Francisco effectively to attempt to buy WeWin - the incentive based video sharing community. The source told me that WeWin's rewards program fills a void that exists in gofish's current platform. Details of the deal are sketchy, but the deal is reported to be between $15 to $25 million dollars. My source [...]

Get Paid $2000 To Upload a Video

Delta - Tech.co.nr

We have all grown to believe after many people saying so before, that community and user generated content is the king, and evidently the start of the treacherous path forward. But what on earth were Break thinking, when they announced that they’d pay up to $2,000 for a short video clip? The site, formerly Big-Boys, is indeed offering to pay users incredible sums of money, just to upload simple shorts. No experience needed!
Having paid out over $300,000 dollars already, the site [...]
