Strands Lifestreaming Service with Tools for Noise Reduction and a Focus on Social Discovery

Svetlana Gladkova

I have recently received an invitation to try out the relatively new lifestreaming aggregator Strands and since lifestreaming is one of the hottest trends these days I wanted to give it a try and share my thoughts here for anyone who may be considering trying another lifestreaming service or looking for strong alternatives to FriendFeed. My personal impression is that Strands is definitely a strong alternative even now when it is in invite-only beta testing stage.
In general Strands offers all [...]

Is Web 2.0 Funding Over? Or Just Moving?

Cyndy Aleo-Carreira

There's been a story today that virtually every blog has been tiptoeing around but not addressing, except for Drama 2.0, but we know how much he likes to rub our noses in any possible popping of the bubble. The story, as Reuters tells it, is that venture capital into Web 2.0 start-ups is slowing down.
In the Dow Jones VentureSource report cited, they point out that VC for Web 2.0 companies only grew by 25% in 2007, from 143 to 178 [...]

MyStrands Music Service Attracts $24 Million Of Funding

Paul Glazowski

We’ve covered the MyStrands social music service/network several times here at Profy. First in December of 2006. Then in late January, when we spoke of several enhancements made. Then in mid-March, when MyStrands tacked on a nifty mobile component to its repertoire. And, lastly, in early September, when we brought you word of the launch of MyStrands TV.
Now it’s safe to say the company (we presume it’s past the “startup” stage) is doing quite well for itself. [...]

FluidPlay: Streaming Tunes Through Your Browser

Paul Glazowski

Your music, anywhere and everywhere. That’s supposed to be what we all want. At home. At school. At work. In the air. Underground. Underwater. You name it, we want it. Or do we? Heck, I don’t know. But in case you do want your music wherever you go – or at least at the multiple PCs you encounter in your daily routine – here’s a product that you might want to check out.
It’s called FluidPlay, and it’s currently in “alpha,” [...]

MyStrands Offers Auto-Fill for Mobile Phones

Paul Glazowski

If you’re familiar with MyStrands, you know that its connection to PartyStrands and the online community created by the two make for an interesting mix. You definitely can enjoy an iTunes or Windows Media or Winamp existence alone, but with MyStrands you can share recommendations for albums and singles with lots of people. And we think sharing is a-okay.
Even if you’re not clubbing on the weekends at a PartyStrands-compliant venue, you get to hear what fellow “MyStranders” are listening to, and [...]

MyStrands Receives Enhancements

Paul Glazowski

Previously spoken about on Profy, PartyStrandswas introduced to the world – and its clubs and bars – as a way to involve those present in a communal conversation through SMS messages, which would be emblazoned upon big screens placed throughout a room or hall. PartyStrands bore other features in addition to their hallmark technology, but enhancing the club going experience with a bit of Web 2.0 was (and still is) their main trade.
It has done fairly well, but it hasn’t [...]

MyStrands Interview

Svetlana Gladkova

After Paul Glazowski published a post about partyStrands, I had a chance to talk to people from Oregon-based MyStrands – the company behind partyStrands and other projects. I have had a talk with Gabriel Aldamiz-echevarria, Vice President of Communications, and Trevor Legwinski, Marketing Manager for PartyStrands.
Svetlana: Can you first of all tell me about history of MyStrands as a company? Who were the founders and how have they come up with the idea?
Gabriel: MyStrands was founded in 2003 by Dr. Francisco [...]
