In case you haven't heard, NBC & News Corp. recently received $100 million in venture funding from Providence Equity Partners, a Rhode Island-based investment firm that specializes in the media and communications industries. This money, according to the New York Times, "will allow the companies to accelerate the introduction of their service and the transfer of NBC and Fox films and television shows into Internet-friendly video formats." |
MySpace Teams with Fox To Find TV Talent

MySpace recently announced that it will be teaming up with the FOX television network and the Producers Guild of America to find television pilots. The “Storyteller Challenge,” beginning September 4, will be a contest in which MySpace will ask for 5-to 7-minute television pilots to be submitted and voted on by the other users of the site. Two winners will then be chosen and rewarded with a $25,000 prize, as well as the possibility of a development deal with [...] |

CBS has apparently recently realized that in order to bring in more traffic and to increase views of its online video, it must become viral… in the sense that they must spread their video content across the web. That did, of course, play a big role in the massive growth of YouTube, which is currently the most popular destination for online video. |

TV Networks apparently have their eyes on Twitter as a new marketing strategy. According to the Wall Street Journal, ABC, CBS, MTV and NBC have started to experiment with the year-old service as a way to communicate with potential viewers and consumers. This seems like a potentially lucrative idea, considering that users are able to receive messages via SMS, IM, email or the Twitter website. |
