Despite it’s somewhat muted announcement some months back, Microsoft’s imminent official unveiling of a Windows Live installer (alleged to arrive for public use and critique sometime this week) still manages to leave me wondering if folks in Redmond are as “on the ball” as some of them may appear to be (Ray Ozzie, for one). |

Yahoo! CEO Terry Semel announced he is stepping down and that Co-founder Jerry Yang will be assuming the every day duties of chief executive. Yahoo! has faced some tough times over the last couple of years and the company's investors have become increasingly restless as Yahoo!'s growth has continued to slow. On Monday Apple made its Safari Web browser available for Windows based PC's. Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple made the announcement at the company's World Wide Developers Conference opening up yet another venue for competition with rival Microsoft. Wall Street was not overly impressed at the news and Apple shares dropped by $4.30 after the news. The new Beta version of Safari is available at Apple's home site. The company is targeting the high school and college segment of their user base to offer yet another feature that will appeal to this demographic. The Daily Reel has just raised seed round funding from Boston's Prism VentureWorks, which is reported to be in the high six-figure range. The LA based startup also had over 200,000 unique sign-ups last month according to co-founder and CEO Jeff Stern. The ad supported site's function is to sort through the maze of online video and recommend sites to users. High overhead and falling revenues are causing many traditional businesses to refocus their targeted sales platforms. Another example, the Borders Group is discontinuing its arrangement with Amazon.com for the sale of their books.
