Just call me out of touch, but I just don't get the idea behind moving Google Apps offline. You can give me talking points about competing with Microsoft and unified functionality all you want, but in the long run, what does it do other than create a circle that seems nothing more than keeping developers in jobs. |

How 2.0 Are You?

Web 2.0 is a term that means different things to different people, but there are some common characteristics that seem to characterize Web 2.0: alpha or beta status. A certain look and feel to sites. Social aspects to the application (for the most part). Building something that should enhance something else (Facebook apps, browser plug-ins). Some things are also common that also crop up, like frequent down-time, or lack of a business plan that ends up with a site shuttered, [...] |

Since my original review of Peepel back in April, the folks there have been very busy adding new features to make Peepel ready for prime time, and I think they are there! |
MyBooo: Web Sharing That Looks Pretty But Needs Work

I've gotten to be fairly excitable when it comes to web operating systems, mainly because I'm getting very tired of dealing with sharing issues. As a freelancer, I'm constantly emailing attachments back and forth, especially if I'm editing a document for someone, and making sure I'm using the right version is difficult when I'm forever downloading the latest version from an email to my hard drive. |
Microsoft Heads Toward Web -2.0

No, that isn't a typo in the title; Microsoft has apparently decided that not only is Web 2.0 a passing phase, but that we should enter the time warp and head back to the days of the Xerox Star system, with one file format that talks to no other. We all know what happened to the Xerox Star; could this be the first major chip in the Microsoft foundation? |
Particls - An Addictive Way to Follow the Web

When I was taking Peepel for a drive, CEO Stephen Kelly was kind enough to give me an invite to the private beta of Particls (called Touchstone) at the time, an application that was promising to revolutionize the way you read news feeds. I'll be honest; I was a bit skeptical. I've downloaded and subsequently removed more apps in the past year than my hard drive likes to think about. I've been using Particls now for a little over a [...] |
Peepel Provides a Better Online Office Suite Solution

I'll be perfectly honest; I hate Google Docs. From the moment I first set eyes on Google Docs, I knew they were going to launch some sort of fee-based service, because I can't remember the last time I saw a web service so completely hobbled for regular users. The spreadsheets are slow. Functionality is limited. But it's attached to the Google name and has a built-in audience, and, let's face it, there haven't been any products released that are [...] |
