Flickr Adds Some Web 2.0 to a User’s Homepage

Svetlana Gladkova

Yesterday Flickr announced a redesign to a user’s homepage that is intended to give more place to social features of Flickr and provide some more customization opportunities. The explanation offered is very simple - there are so many things you can do on Flickr and some of the activities may stay completely unnoticed unless they are pushed at you, like the activity in the groups you belong to.
Flickr does not change anything about the look and feel of the site [...]

Should Flickr Stick To Photo-sharing?

Michael Garrett

Just yesterday Yahoo! announced that it would be adding video capabilities (which were added today) to its extremely popular photo-sharing site, Flickr. Now, just one day later there seems to already be a rapidly growing group among Flickr users, as reported on Webware, who are against the move and want the site to remain dedicated to photography.
Flickr, however, views videos as "moving snapshots people take now that digital cameras can record video as well as still images, " according to [...]

Zooomr 2008: Still Not Sure Who They Are

Cyndy Aleo-Carreira

It's been a while since I looked to see how Zooomr was doing. They recently received their second Webware 100 nomination, so I thought it was time to revisit the site.
The good news is that Zooomr is still around. After their problems with launching Mark III last spring, they've managed to keep the site running, relocate their servers (albeit with an issue or two), and even start to monetize the site with ads and a freemium model, where [...]

Online photo sharing service Flickr, which recently announced new geotagging abilities, now has two more new updates that will be introduced soon.
Flickr users have long requested photo-editing capabilities which are now planned to be integrated within the coming months after the announcement of Flickr's partnership with online photo-editing service Picnik. Few details have been released but this deal is sure to shake up the mix of third-party online photo editors that are currently offering integration with Flickr.

Agester Warning - Content Not Consumable

Phil Butler

I have had the great pleasure to visit some of the most innovative web sites, test the most sought after Beta releases and talk with a few of the most influential personalities of Web 2.0. I feel fortunate sincerely.
Then there is always the other side of the coin, or the one we often do not burden our readers with. That would be the sites and personalities not worth wasting the micro-voltage output of a CPU to visit.
I found [...]

A Delight Among Giants

Paul Glazowski

Web-based photo solutions are… abundant, wouldn’t you say? We know Flickr and Photobucket are constantly warring for ‘number one’, and a myriad of others that have found their niches in the West, East, and everyplace in between. There’s Zoto, Pikeo, Dropshots, Slide, PBase – let’s just say there are lots of photos out there on the great WWW. So who says there’s room for another service to cater to all the digital cameras out there. The folks at You Represent [...]

Svetlana Gladkova

After the post Photo Searching and Storing: Who???s On Top???published by Paul Glazowski??I have had a chance to talk to representatives of Fotki.com and Photobucket. I received an email from Photobucket where they attracted my opinion to the fact that Photobucket was actually much larger than Flickr in terms of daily unique visitors:

While Alexa shows even a better reach for Flickr:
??
So yesterday I was informed by a marketing manager of Photobucket that they had finally reached the milestone of 30 [...]
