Five Betas to Fight Boredom

Phil Butler

The museum of modern betas (MOMB ) is one really cool place to get a "heads up" on upcoming startups and beta tests. I gathered a short list of new startups that might just add some fun and/or utility to your day. We review so many sites that are fantastic innovations and some that have the ability to change the way we think about Web 2.0, but there are plenty that are just plain fun and that are not designed [...]

Link Until You Turn Blue - AdaptiveBlue

Phil Butler

Back in October I did a review of the AdaptiveBlu's Smartlinks widgets here on Profy. Back then I found the service to have great potential and evidently I was correct. Alex Iskold and the team at Adaptive have expanded the capability and depth of the widgets, which are even now being applied at a rather viral rate by bloggers and site owners. While not a complex tool, Smartlinks is proving that not every great innovation has to be [...]

Phil Butler

All you hotties out there get ready for the ultimate meat market for Web 2.0! Our editor shoveled me some info about a unique dating site that I just had to inform our readers about. Pixilive.com is another simple way to upload images and video for hosting or sharing to your favorite spaces. This free service allows users to upload, copy and paste links or code literally in seconds. The most noticeable thing about Pixilive is the lack of any registration from. The simplicity and function of this little site are readily apparent and anyone can create a link or code as fast as they can choose their media.

Tracking Startups - Part Two

Phil Butler

Keeping track of all our investigations into Web 2.0 gets to be a little daunting, but here is part two of our little visitation on 2007's early startups. In part one we spotted one really rising star amongst the several startups, while a large number were found in a basic "road kill" posture. Perhaps this update will illuminate a better ratio of success on the rocky road to success on Web 2.0!
The following Web 2.0 startups are not listed [...]

Grupl.com - Digg Killer?

Phil Butler

I accepted an invitation to test a website called Grupl.com. Grupl professes to be the "Digg killer" in a forum post, while acknowledging that they may be labeled as just a clone. I joined the community to evaluate at least how good a clone they might be, and really found the site to be quite excellent in this early stage of its development.
Grupl is one heck of a lot prettier than Digg for sure, and the nature of submissions and [...]
