Ask search engine is quite famous for its constant overhauls in continuous attempts to please users and increase its rather small market share when compared to search giants like Google or Yahoo (according to comScore with its 4.8% it is now number 4 in the US after Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft). |

Yandex Proves We Don’t Have Bears on the Streets in Russia

It is invariably funny to watch people’s reaction when I mention that in addition to having a Russian name I actually happen to work from Russia. People seem to actually want to ask if we actually have any broadband connection here. I believe this is the same for many people outside of the US working in the social media blogging or launching their own startups. And this is why I actually have to admit I am a bit internationally biased [...] |
Why Do People Google “Internet”?
by

Recently I have noticed an interesting thing in the traffic stats for Profy. Specifically I have started to notice people arriving from Google (mostly) and some other search engines after they do a search for a single word - “internet”. And since I always find it amusing when people google “Google” to get the same link they are actually on (and yes, Google is quite a popular search term) I thought that googling “internet” was equally amusing. And the change is in the field of better user experience based on behavioral targeting and semantic search technologies. Currently the [...] |
Cuil Launches – Good for Discovery and Surprises, Bad for Search

Honestly, I can never understand why we constantly expect every single new product to kill something that is strong in the particular niche already. Normally I hate that type of post titles - they sound to me like BMW is a Mercedes killer. And [...] |

By now, most of us have heard about the global warming crisis that is endangering the planet. Al Gore spoke on the topic in the phenomenally popular documentary An Inconvenient Truth, and you can even find several sites across the web (even a blog) out to educate the world about the issue and how it takes each of us individually to commit to changing our lifestyles to make a difference. The problem there, though, is that most people fear change [...] |
What Is Going On At Mahalo?
by
on April 01, 2008

Ever since the “human-powered search engine” Mahalo launched (and even in the months preceding launch), the startup has dealt with its share of skepticism from critics. Of course the founder, Jason Calacanis (formerly of Netscape/AOL and Weblogs Inc.), has dealt with his share of criticism before, but it seems as if progress on Mahalo is being closely monitored by the blogging community as if it is doomed to fail. |
