Qtrax had some “big” news today; they renewed their existing licenses with EMI Music Publishing and Sony/ATV. When I read the news, I went looking for a press release on their site and couldn't find a thing. I'm guessing at this point, Qtrax just wants to launch, and any intermediate steps between their current status and launch are just reminders of how badly their one botched attempt went. |

Sony Looks To Do With Movie Sales Online What It Failed To Do With Music

Sony’s once sterling reputation has in recent years caked on quite a bit of mud. It’s dealt with a backlash from consumers over underhanded rootkit installations made to consumers’ PCs. It’s seen its Walkman heritage fade every so painfully to become what many would agree is now, when juxtaposed against the all-powerful iPod-iTunes duopoly, just another second-class. And just last week the company announced that it is shelving the ATRAC file format it stubbornly held onto since as far [...] |

MySpace recently announced that it will be teaming up with the FOX television network and the Producers Guild of America to find television pilots. The “Storyteller Challenge,” beginning September 4, will be a contest in which MySpace will ask for 5-to 7-minute television pilots to be submitted and voted on by the other users of the site. Two winners will then be chosen and rewarded with a $25,000 prize, as well as the possibility of a development deal with [...] |

The music industry is in trouble. Its titans complain about the continuous decrease in CD sales. And while in previous years the big houses (and the little ones they held within) were the only logical recipients for solo artists and musical groups and acts (think boy bands and the like), today many percussionists, string magicians, vocalists, and pianists and keyboardists, together or apart, are choosing to “go their own way.” |

We’ve sure you’ve seen the signs. Search for a music video by name or artists on YouTube; find what you’re looking for in the results. Click. Only then you discovered on the following page a red box mentioning something or other about copyright infringement, and that the clip was no longer available for playback. Bummer. |

We recently reviewed a site called WeWin.com where users are rewarded for sharing and viewing video. We really like the site, with a few reservations, as the incentive based community is innovative and entertaining. In a press release by Market Wire - February 5, WeWin and Mondera announced a campaign that would award $5000 in gift certificates redeemable at Modera.com during the month of February. Mondera was voted “Best of the Web” by Forbes Magazine and is recognized for its quality gems [...] |
