I hope everyone has enjoyed the long weekend and is ready for a successful week. As always on Monday here is my traditional post to thank the outstanding companies that support Profy as our sponsors. I have been trying to prove since the very beginning of the current global financial crisis that marketing and advertising should not be among the things companies cut costs on as only those that retain an image of prospering and successful companies even during the [...] |

Yahoo Proves Barack Obama Still Less Popular Than Britney Spears
by
on December 01, 2008

Today is the day when Yahoo releases its 2008 Year in Review describing what search terms were most popular among Yahoo users in the year that is coming to its end. To me the results are not surprising at all and the only thing that is both unexpected and disappointing is that Britney Spears has managed to keep the absolute search leadership to herself while Barack Obama only managed to climb to the third position - even despite his recent [...] |
Technology Helps Everyone – Mumbai Terrorists Included
by
on November 30, 2008

Today there’s an interesting report about terrorists using BlackBerry mobile devices during Mumbai attacks to watch the world reaction to their actions. I myself can hardly understand why people seem to be surprised about such things at all as it is quite obvious that in this world technology is accessible to just about anyone with enough money and it does not require any license or approval to buy a smart phone. After all, no one will ask you what you [...] |
Only 2% of Technology Users Try to Find a Solution to a Problem Online
by
on November 16, 2008

A study released today by Pew Research proves an obvious fact: technology and gadgets are not particularly user-friendly and nearly half of all users need help setting up their devices or learning how to use them. The paradox is quite obvious to me: the latest and greatest technology tools are intended to make our lives easier yet learning how to make life easier takes some time first. And even after everything is up and running, chances are you will still [...] |
What Change Should The Web World Expect Now That Obama Has Won?
by
on November 05, 2008

Now that we know that Barack Obama will be the next president of the United States, I think everyone is making their guesses on what we should expect him to do in every field of the politics and economy. And while it is quite easy to promise whatever you want during a presidential race, the presidency itself is usually a little different thing where multiple factors will influence the politics - and those factors will hardly be limited to the [...] |
Russian Priest Reduced to Monk for Resisting Progress and Internet
by
on October 06, 2008

This morning watching some news on TV and having breakfast I heard the words “Russian Orthodox Church” and “internet” mentioned in the same story and could not help but share the piece here. Yesterday one of Russian bishops Diomid was degraded to a usual monk for a number of wrongdoings, including prohibiting churchgoers from using cell phones and internet. |
Idea for Playboy March Issue: Women in Tech
by
on October 03, 2008

Yesterday Playboy came up with an interesting initiative to draw attention to the global financial crisis and help us look at the situation with at least some humor now that it’s obviously needed. The adult entertainment magazine has announced an idea for women of Wall Street special feature for the February 2009 issue to help at least 20 these women survive the crisis. Applications to pose are accepted from women from various Wall Street financial institutions - both still employed [...] |
Financial Crisis Hits the House Website
by
on September 30, 2008

We have already started to see various examples of tech companies experiencing the negative effects of the financial crisis we are now in. But it looks like the economic turmoil will not only damage stocks of tech companies but will also affect damage some servers as well. Today’s example is the website of the House of Representatives that was hit on Monday with incredible traffic of millions of people eagerly trying to find out the decision on $700 billion bailout. [...] |
Welcome to a Busy Technology September

Today we are having the first day of fall and no matter how sad it may be for some of us to welcome this rainy season, September will sure be a very exciting and busy month for everyone in the technology blogosphere. The main reason is that we are going to have four (!!!) major industry events this month with dozens of new projects launched and - hopefully - lots of interesting ideas and discussions to witness. |
Twitter and FriendFeed Leave No Chance for a Balanced News Consumption to a Technology Blogger
by
on July 30, 2008

Only yesterday morning, minutes before the earthquake in California, I talked to a blogging friend of mine on Skype and shared my concerns about a huge imbalance in my news consumption. The thing is that I have realized that I follow all (even minor) news related to everything in technology and web 2.0 - because of Profy, obviously. This results in my every moment online spent on some technology site or blog or some social network discussing the [...] |
