I apologize in advance for the New-York-centric posts when it comes to Internet-related legislation, since that is usually the domain of Center Networks. However, I live in New York, and I feel duty-bound to comment on what happens here so that the rest of the U.S. and other countries can try to lobby their governments to prevent the same stupidity from occurring where they live. |

A huge proportion of tech news has to do with online advertising: studies on its efficacy, technologies for serving ads, ad revenue ups and downs, and acquisitions having to do with any of those. The reality, however, is that we don't know much about how to really leverage online advertising, and we have a lot to learn. |

It seems clear that the Yahoo board is delusional. There is just no other way to describe it aside from out-of-touch, clueless, or just plain crazy. They turned down the Microsoft offer. Fine, we get it. Big bad Microsoft would cramp your free-wheeling style that has had you, the first big search and portal online, cowering in the shadow of Google . Before I begin detailing the latest travesty in high-speed highway robbery, I need to disclose that I have been a Time Warner high-speed customer since they first did a beta program in my area. I remained loyal even when DSL arrived, for far less money than what I pay for my high-speed cable connection. And I've encouraged countless others to ditch their dial-up to move to Time Warner's services. |

In the news yesterday YouTube announced they plan to test new fingerprinting technology that will address the copyright issues that are causing them huge legal woes. This new software will identify unique attributes in video clips that may allow for the prevention of uploading copyrighted clips without permission. |

Time Warner’s AOL is poised to announce production deals for new Web programming today. The new partnership will include deals with Mark Burnett (survivor), Dreamworks Animation, Madison Road, Telepictures and others. According to the story via Reuters/Yahoo! the deals will feature games based on “Shrek”, trivia games from Burnett’s “Gold Rush” and a link with the Ellen Degeneres Show allowing users to share their personal stories. |

Google Inc. just made a deal with U.S. TV satellite company EchoStar in an attempt to enter the TV advertising business. On Monday EchoStar and Google said they will partner to create an automated system for buying, selling, delivering and measuring TV ads on EchoStar's 125 channel Dish Network. |

Next New Networks is a new startup by former MTV and Nickelodeon executives Herb Scannell and Fred Seibert. The cable TV innovators are getting back together to start a series of video web sites that they have dubbed “micro-networks”. The topics of these networks are to be niche topics like fashion, comic books, car racing and cartoons. |
