Google Expands AdSense Revenue Sharing Program At YouTube

Paul Glazowski

News outlets all across the media sphere yesterday published stories on YouTube’s decision to grow its pilot ad revenue sharing program to encompass interested parties in the general public.
The company, owned by Google, was known for several months to operate a limited, roughly 100-user program to formulate a system by which registered site members would be given a percentage – presumably quite small – of advertising income generated via AdSense.
According to YouTube, however, the site “will now accept partner [...]

YouTube To Deliver Higher Quality Video With New Player By Feb 2008

Paul Glazowski

YouTube, a global Web-based phenomenon if there every was one, has proven itself, over the course of its existence, both as an independent service and one held under the dominion of Mountain View, to be a very effective outlet for everyone from amateur paparazzi to diarists to people-strangely-obsessed-with-unboxing-electronic-goods to get their clips out to the masses, from whence millions on a daily basis look in to the Web video hub for news, entertainment, and plenty other miscellaneous items anyone might [...]

A Tale Of Modern Love

Paul Glazowski

A guy’s gotta do what a guy’s gotta do.
Call it a crowdsourcing success; call it a nifty (and perhaps very lucky) use of Net-tastic technology. When 21-year-old Patrick Moberg (an employee of the Web video company, Vimeo, no less) spotted someone who he thought was his love-to-be on a crowded New York City subway train, and managed to let her – blue shorts, blue tights, red flower and all – slip away un-addressed into above-ground anonymity, he did what many [...]

Paul Glazowski

ComScore, one of the more widely referenced research houses on technology-related matters today, has made its latest findings for Internet trends involving video available for all to see. Anyone who?s curious to know just how super popular online video has become, need look no further than ComScore?s newest report.
The facts and figures the research firm has released are specific to the month of July, so it?s likely that the numbers as of this moment rank even higher (just a bit) [...]

Quarterlife: New Internet Television Series Set To Debut In November

Paul Glazowski

Back in the day ? last spring, to be more precise ? we brought you a bit of news on a certain serial production created specifically for MySpacers. It was a project (later deemed a success by it?s creators, I might add) called ?Prom Queen,? and had quite a bit of publicity going into its debut.
Today, another MySpace exclusive had its announcement. This one?s called ?Quarterlife.? The synopsis is fairly simple: Young twentysomethings ?struggling to find their way after college.? [...]

Instant Media, Miro Competitor, Leaves The Net Without A Trace

Paul Glazowski

Recognize the name Instant Media? No? Well, to get you a little familiar with it, you only really need to know two things: It?s a competitor of Miro, previously known as Democracy Player; and it?s dead.
I?ll be perfectly honest with you. I know very little about Instant Media. Almost nothing. Only about a half hour prior to getting to write this piece did I get some facts about the product up on my screen. So, really I pretty much know [...]

Vint Cerf, Google Chief Internet Evangelist, Sees Bright Future For IPTV

Paul Glazowski

How do you prefer to watch television? As it comes, either over the airwaves or via a cable-based setup? Perhaps you like to record your favorite shows for viewing after they’re broadcast. How about on-demand, by way of a download process, via good ol’ Internet Protocol?
The last scenario is likely to be the least favored by the average individual. Nonetheless, it’s the model put forth as the soon-to-be “next big thing” by Google’s Vint Cerf. (Beware, the linked page [...]

YouTube Promises Content Creators Control Over InVideo Ads

Paul Glazowski

By now, you’ve likely heard or read about YouTube’s official debut of overlay advertisements, distributed by a system dubbed, appropriately enough, InVideo. If you’ve browsed the site quite a bit in the past few days, chances are you might have already seen one or two or more such spots presented in the new format.
If so, you might be wondering if you’ll be seeing a lot more of them as time passes. You might be wondering whether they’ll eventually be everywhere, [...]

Mass Video Streaming On The Web Reaches New Heights

Paul Glazowski

Let me state right from the start that I am very, very skeptical about the veracity of the figure quoted by the organizers of this past weekend’s Live Earth event in counting the event’s audience – both online and offline. Why? Well, it’s hard to believe roughly 2 billion people visited the arenas, tuned in their televisions, and pointed their Web browsers to the sites bearing video streams broadcasting the action from around the globe. To say the least, [...]

Lessig And 75 Others Ask For Fair-Use Presidential Debate Footage

Paul Glazowski

Lawrence Lessig is at the pulpit again, and he’s talking about fair use, again. Which is great. Everyone wants fair use. (Except, you know, some media companies who'll remain unnamed here.) But Lessig’s talking politics, too.
He’d like to see recorded presidential debates be made available for presentation, and even “remixing”, on the Web. Can’t say I don’t agree.
Whether or not the presidential debates scheduled this year and the next (the first with all Democratic hopefuls in attendance occurred [...]
