I believe Yandex is the best-known Russian internet company for the English-speaking technology community. The company resembles Google in its operations quite a lot - but a smaller one, playing mainly on the national level and only making its first steps to achieve international expansion, like opening an office in the Silicon Valley and hiring former Yahoo search expert. |

Russia is an interesting country when it comes to the top level domains that the nation uses. Initially Soviet Union was assigned .su domain but soon after that the Soviet Union itself went into oblivion and Russia was granted a separate domain zone of its own - .ru this time. |

We have recently discussed a lot the possibility of an initial public offering for Yandex, the major Russian search engine and provider of various internet services. Initially Yandex was planning an IPO on NASDAQ for some time this fall - yet we suggested that it was not actually wise with the negative reaction to the conflict between Georgia and Russia. |

People seem to actually want to ask if we actually have any broadband connection here. Today I have seen the new Google's special Valentine's Day logo on TechCrunch - I am sure someone in the company will have a really bad Valentine's day (and not because of being lonely but because of the logo).
